ETYMOLOGY I • GREEK & MARINE ROOT
Sardélla
/sar-del-la/ — Greek Word Meaning “Sardines”
Sardélla is a Greek word meaning sardines (Sardinella), locally known across Philippine waters as Tamban. Each 135 g (4.76 oz) bar is sustainably crafted from Tamban fish's oil, bones, and scales—preventing organic fish waste from contaminating coastal waters.
ETYMOLOGY II • ENGLISH & DERMATOLOGICAL OUTCOME
Luminous
/lu-mi-nous/ — English Word Meaning “Glowing, Brilliant, Giving Off”
Luminous is an English word meaning glowing, brilliant, and giving off light. It reflects the soap's core dermatological benefits: making the skin glowing, hydrated, moisturized, and soft while functioning as a protective sunscreen and skin barrier.
01
Proteins & Type I Collagen
Tamban Flesh, Scales & Bones
Naturally abundant in Tamban flesh, scales, and bones. Supplies structural marine amino acids and biocompatible Type I collagen fibrils within the cured soap matrix.
Provides silkiness, a smooth feel, and a rich, creamy lather on the skin while supporting epidermal hydration, firmness, and elasticity.
02
Lipids & Omega-3 Fatty Acids
Tamban Oil + Coconut Oil & Shea Butter
Found in Tamban oil—the primary lipid ingredient that reacts with sodium hydroxide (NaOH / caustic soda lye) dissolved in water during saponification (from Latin “sapo” meaning soap). Blended with saturated coconut oil (for bar hardness, lather, and oxidation resistance), shea butter (for creaminess), and Vitamin E (to slow rancidity and reduce fishy odor).
Produces gentle fatty acid soap salts and natural glycerin that deeply moisturize, soften skin, and reinforce the protective lipid barrier.
03
Key & Essential Vitamins
Vitamins D, B2, B3, B12 + A, E, K, B1, B5, B6, B9
Key Vitamins: Vitamin D, Vitamin B2 (Riboflavin), Vitamin B3 (Niacin), and Vitamin B12 (Cobalamin). Other Components: Vitamin A (Retinol), Vitamin E, Vitamin K, Vitamin B1 (Thiamin), Vitamin B5 (Pantothenic acid), Vitamin B6, and Vitamin B9 (Folate).
Vitamin D protects against inflammation and aging in acne/dermatitis, lessens puffiness, promotes skin renewal, and reduces wrinkles; Vitamin B2 supports cell repair and calms redness for sensitive skin; Vitamin B3 brightens hyperpigmentation and fine lines; Vitamin B12 relieves dryness and irritation.
04
Minerals & Hydroxyapatite
Calcium Phosphate, Zinc, Selenium & Iodine
Calcium Phosphate (Hydroxyapatite) found in powdered Tamban bones and scales remains solid (physical change, does not dissolve in soap). Accompanied by Zinc, Selenium, Iodine (used via the Iodine Value to measure soap stability and shelf life), Calcium, Phosphorus, Iron, Magnesium, Potassium, Copper, and Manganese.
Calcium Phosphate gently exfoliates dead skin cells; Zinc promotes wound healing, regulates sebum, tightens pores, and prevents P. acnes bacteria growth; Selenium neutralizes free radicals and reduces inflammation.
05
Choline & Pure Water (H2O)
Barrier Integrity & Rapid Post-Catch Processing
Water (H2O) is a major component of fresh fish, requiring rapid post-catch processing of Tamban oil, scales, and bones to prevent spoilage, and dissolves NaOH lye for saponification. Choline is naturally retained as an essential skin nutrient.
Choline maintains the skin's barrier and moisture, improves skin function, enhances elasticity and texture, and reduces wrinkles and fine lines.
SAPONIFICATION REACTION (LATIN “SAPO”) • CURED BAR pH 9–10 • PLOS ONE (2025) VERIFIED
Fat / Oil (Tamban Oil, Coconut Oil, Shea Butter) + 3 NaOH (Lye) ⟶ Soap + Glycerin
Environmental Biodegradability & Quality Assurance: According to a 2025 study published in PLOS ONE (Kanyama et al., 2025), natural soap composed of fatty acid salts breaks down more easily, is more biodegradable, and is less harmful to aquatic life than synthetic detergents. Every batch undergoes strict lye calibration and full curing (pH 9–10) to prevent excess NaOH irritation, antioxidant Vitamin E stabilization in cool closed storage to prevent oil oxidation, clean-water sterilization and heavy-metal screening (lead, cadmium, mercury), and clear marine fish allergen labeling.
